This is more of an informal blog... share what your DLU topic is. Why did you pick it? What does it mean to you? Are you tied to it personally or more professionally or is it random? Share a few thoughts and respond to others if/when you have time. Try to post by Wednesday, Jan. 4th and respond as quickly as possible (by Thursday, if you can!).
My DLU topic is poetry. I picked this topic because I like writing and the majority of my own is poetry, although I would love to write a novel one day. So far I'm thinking of doing lessons on different types of poems and then having the final project be a poem of the students' own.
ReplyDeleteThat is a cool topic. You give the kids a chance to show who they are by writing a poem. They get the freedom to write what they want and show you what they learned, making it fun and educational.
DeleteThat is so good that you have written poems! The students will love seeing your work and will inspire them so much. Anytime you are generally interested in a lesson unit it carries over to the students. Poetry is not as easy as it sounds too so preparing this unit for diverse learners is really going to help you In the future.
DeletePoetry is awesome, I think that is is actually really fun to write and is a great way to learn and express oneself. It is also very efficient because of how much freedom kids have when writing it because of the different types of poems.
DeleteMy DLU topic is 5th grade fractions. I chose to do this because in school, math was my favorite subject and for some reason this was the very first thing that came to mind. I am tied to this topic both personally and professionally as I love math and feel it is very important for student to understand fractions as they can often be difficult.
ReplyDeleteIt seems math is one of those topics that you love or hate. I would think this would be a challenging subject because of that. It seems some students just put up a mental block that they are not good in math and they don't try as hard. Having a DLU developed for math prior to teaching it will be so beneficial for you.
DeleteMath is a great topic and I really enjoy it. I think, like Pam said, that having a DLU developed prior to your lesson(s) will be perfect for you and the students. Math can be very hard to teach different from the normal lecture style but if teachers just sit down and think about it and put a little effort into it then it could be taught differently.
DeleteMy topic is for my Marketing 1 class and involves elements of advertising. I chose it for a few reasons. One this is in my curriculum goals so I need to develop a unit and thought this would be a good forum to make sure I am addressing all my learners while doing so. Also after working in marketing this is of genuine interest to me. And I own a frozen custard business so reviewing advertising will help me as we are gearing up for opening another season!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome that you have a frozen custard business! I think this is a good topic and needs to be taught but it could be difficult to reach all learners, but that is why we are here.
DeleteI think that is a good idea to use this class to prepare for your other class. You can make sure that you are setting up everything right and like you said this will help you try to reach all of the learners. But that is so cool that you have your own business! I think that would be so fun!
DeleteMy topic is for a social studies class and is What Makes Each State Unique. I choose this because I an aspiring social studies teacher and I really enjoy geography and talking about the states. This topic is fun and I really enjoy having fun, there are so many different ways that one can go with this topic. I am tied to this more professionally, however, I did a few projects over the states in middle school.
ReplyDeleteI love social studies, well at least I did in middle school and high school! I do not know how I will do with two history classes this semester! But yeah there is so many ways that you can teach about the states, and everything that goes on in each of them! And I think like you said trying to make the class fun will not only make your classroom more fun, but make the students want to learn.
DeleteWow! I wish I was in your class. That sounds like such an interesting topic. It would be neat too to have the students bring in anything that they have from the different states they have visited. Each state has so much to offer, they may reveal something you didn't know was there. I keep learning of things about Missouri I had no clue was in our state. This really sounds fun!
